ROSTOV-ON-DON. June 13 (Interfax-AVN) - The personnel of a military base in the Southern Military District in South Ossetia have been alerted and have been dispatched to the designated combat area for the beginning of command and staff drills, the district's press service told Interfax.
"While proceeding to the area of the drills, servicemen will practice units' actions during an air strike by a simulated enemy, traversal of contaminated areas in the event that simulated hostiles use weapons of mass destruction and radioelectronic warfare," the interlocutor of the news agency said.
The primary goal of the drills is to practice the command of units in different types of terrain involving automated control systems and new samples of weapons, he said.
"State-of-the-art unified command and staff vehicles designed for ensuring communication and command of units during a battle are involved in the drills. Advanced equipment of vehicles allows for resolving a whole array of tasks in automated mode, including receipt, processing and imaging of combat control signals," he also said.
Nearly 3,000 servicemen and 500 pieces of military hardware are involved in the military exercises.
