MOSCOW. June 14 (Interfax) - 'Kratovo gunman' Igor Zenkov, who killed several people in the settlement of Kratovo outside Moscow and was himself killed in a special operation by law enforcement troops, had made advance preparations before shooting down his neighbors and said in a death note that there was no one to blame, a source familiar with the situation told Interfax.
"Doctors diagnosed Zenkov with a psychiatric disorder of chronic nature some time ago. The man had been in remission for a long time but his condition was affected negatively by external irritants and he would happen to become aggressive and even violent," the source said. One day a conflict broke out between Zenkov and his neighbor who owned a car care center in a house next door. Tentatively, the cause of the conflict was an excessive noise coming from the garage, according to the source.
"Being in an aggressive mood, the man came to the car care center and shot the neighbor. After that, he started shooting at passers-by," the source said.
The source revealed that according to the tentative information, before going to the garage, Zenkov had written a sizeable death note. "In the note, apart from everything else, the man claimed responsibility for his actions and asked that nobody be blamed," the source said.
As reported earlier, in the afternoon of June 10, Zenkov, 50, barricaded himself inside his house in the settlement of Kratovo near Moscow and opened fire on passers-by and policemen and Russian National Guard officers who arrived at the scene. Four people were killed and four Russian National Guard officers were wounded. Before Zenkov was neutralized in an hours-long police operation he had detonated 14 grenades. His house that Zenkov himself set on fire burned down. It turned out that Zenkov had been working in Emergency Situations Ministry agencies for many years and had had a hobby of collecting World War II-era weapons in the woods. What happened to Zenkov's elderly mother still remains unknown. She is believed to have been killed by Zenkov.
