MOSCOW. June 16 (Interfax) - The fight against terrorism in Syria would be more efficient if the lack of understanding between Russia and the United States could be overcome, Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.
"The fight against ISIL is among the main objectives that the Russian Federation has set for itself. Our common positions have been undermined by the lack of interaction between us, because, if we cooperated and interacted, I mean Russia and the U.S., then this fight could be more efficient," Peskov told journalists on Friday.
"Unfortunately, this isn't happening because of the lack of such desire in our American partners," he said.
Russia's actions in Syria are focused on fighting terrorism and "helping the legitimate Syrian leadership fight terrorism," he said.
In addition, the Russian president has always said that Russia is also pursuing its own ends in Syria, as several thousand people coming from Russia and the countries of the former Soviet Union are fighting for terrorists in that country, he said.
ISIL is a terrorist organization outlawed in Russia.
