MOSCOW. June 19 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Defense Minister Lieut. Gen. Alexander Fomin and Japanese Ambassador to Russia Toyohisa Kozuki met on Monday, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.
"The parties exchanged opinions on the current state and prospects of military relations between Russia and Japan with an emphasis placed on the implementation of agreements reached during Russian-Japanese consultations in the 2+2 format between the heads of the defense and foreign policy agencies in Tokyo in March 2017," the ministry said.
Moscow and Tokyo held consultations in the Japanese capital on March 20. On the Russian side, taking part in the meeting were Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, and on the Japanese side, Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida and Defense Minister Tomomi Inada.
Tokyo maintains consultations in this format with only a few countries with which Japan has positive political relations.
