BLAGOVESHENSK. June 21 (Interfax) - A court in the Amur region has handed a three year and nine months sentence to a local resident who hosted meetings of the Nurdzhular extremist organization, which is banned in Russia.
The Blagoveshchensk City Court found the 42-year-old man guilty of organizing the activity of an extremist organization, as well as fanning hatred, feud, and belittling human dignity, the court said in a statement posted on its website.
The defendant, who shared the ideas of the Nurdzhular international religious association, hosted religious meetings in Blagoveshchensk in 2013-2015, during which he quoted prohibited books, discussed and commented on what he had read, the statement said.
The Russian Supreme Court recognized the Nurdzhular association as extremist and prohibited it on the Russian territory, it said.
