PARIS. June 21 (Interfax-AVN) - The administration of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTS) and the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) held negotiations with a military delegation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the aerospace show in Le Bourget, the UAC press service told reporters.
"UAC President Yury Slyusar took part in the meeting between Russia's FSMTS Director Dmitry Shugayev and Vice Marshal Ibrahim Nasser Mohammed Al Alawi, commander of the United Arab Emirates Air Force (UAEAF) is the UAE Air Force," the press service said in a report.
Shugayev earlier told reporters Russia had begun pre-contract work on the supply of the Sukhoi Su-35 multi-role fighter to the UAE.
"A relevant intergovernmental agreement was signed at IDEX. We are now discussing the parameters of cooperation on this track. It's also called pre-contract work," Shugayev said.
Specialists and experts are studying the general configuration of the project and technical experts are discussing the appearance, he said.
Russian Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov said in April the UAE might buy several dozen Sukhoi Su-35 fighter planes from Russia.
Rosoboronexport General Director Alexander Mikheev told Interfax Russia and the UAE are in the process of approving the technical parameters of the fifth generation fighter they are working on developing together.
"We are in consultations. We are working with MIG Corporation on a technical assignment of a prototype, the image. It is a long-term project," Mikheev said at the air show in Paris.
Rostec CEO Sergey Chemezov earlier said Russia and the UAE will work together on the development of a fifth generation plane. The fighter may be based on MiG-29, the work on it will take from seven to eight years and production is expected to be launched in the UAE, he said.
