Export modification of Fizik torpedo to be presented at IMDS in St. Petersburg

MOSCOW. June 26 (Interfax) - An export modification of the Fizik torpedo may be presented at the International Maritime Defense Show (IMDS 2017) in St. Petersburg, United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) President Alexei Rakhmanov said.

"I think it will be demonstrated one way or another, and I also know that its export modification will be put on display. We have a very strict and clear protocol, which prescribes that every product we display must have a format permitted for foreign trade," Rakhmanov told a press conference at Interfax on Monday.

The configuration and name of the torpedo will be determined by the Military-Technical Cooperation Commission in case this product is exported, he said.

The Fizik torpedo is a product of Tactical Missiles Corporation's enterprises. According to open press sources, the Fizik deepwater homing torpedo has been adopted by the Russian Navy. The torpedo with a range of 50 kilometers is a weapon of strategic nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines of Project 955 Borei and nuclear-powered attack submarines of Project 885 Yasen.
