Russian senator Pushkov describes Iraqi army's capture of Mosul as strong blow to IS

MOSCOW. June 29 (Interfax) - The head of the Russian Federation Council information policy commission, Alexei Pushkov, has commented on the Iraqi army's clearing the city of Mosul of the ISIL, or IS (Islamic State, terrorist group outlawed in Russia).

"The capture of Mosul is a strong blow to the IS. Three years ago, [IS leader Abu Bakr] al-Baghdadi said in Mosul that the caliphate was founded. There is neither of those now," Pushkov wrote in his Twitter account on Thursday.

It was reported earlier that the Iraqi army had completed its operation to clear Mosul of IS terrorists.
