MOSCOW. June 30 (Interfax) - The Russian Embassy in Tehran has no information regarding the authenticity of photographs which allegedly confirm the death of ISIL (banned in Russia) leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
"We did not have those photographs and did not hand them over to the Iranians either; at least, the Embassy did not do that," an Embassy representative told Interfax on Friday.
The origin of these photographs is so far unclear, and Iranian officials have so far made no comment on their publication, he said.
Earlier on Friday, Iranian television showed a photograph which allegedly proved the killing of the ISIL leader. The photo was posted on the website of the IRIB Iranian state-run channel.
Ali Shirazi, an aide to the Iranian leader, told the IRNA news agency on Thursday that al-Baghdadi was definitely dead.
The Russian Defense Ministry said on June 16, referencing tentative information, that the ISIL leader and 300 militants were killed in a Russian airstrike in Syria in late May.
A number of Russian officials said in a later period that the information about al-Baghdadi's death had not been confirmed as of yet.
