TALLINN. July 5 (Interfax) - A train carrying the military equipment of a Hungarian army platoon that forms part of NATO forces has arrived in Estonia, the Estonian Defence Forces' central headquarters told Interfax on Tuesday.
The unit personnel were flown to Estonia by a United States transport aircraft last Monday.
To equip the Hungarian platoon, more than ten modified BTR-80 armored vehicles with 14.5-millimeter heavy machineguns and 50-mlllimeter quick firing cannons have been delivered to Estonia. The personnel and the equipment have been redeployed to the town of Voru in southeastern Estonia, near its border with Russia. The Hungarian troops will be interacting with the Estonian Land Forces' 2nd Infantry Brigade based in Voru.
"It is important to practice not only warfare but also delivering the allied troops to Estonia," the brigade commander, Eero Rebo, said.
The Hungarian infantrymen arrived in addition to a NATO grouping of 1,200 British, French and Danish troops already deployed to Estonia.
The Hungarian platoon arrived under a decision by the Visegrad Group comprising Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland. The troops will rotate every three months.
