TASHKENT. July 5 (Interfax) - There are currently no reasons for military conflicts in Central Asia, Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov said.
"Experts are perfectly right to say that conflict potential is declining in Central Asia," he said on Wednesday during dialogue with his fellow citizens at the International Press Club.
The minister said a lot had been said previously about the possibility of the shortage of water and border disputes causing military conflicts in the region. "Neither water nor borders, there are no other reasons for a military conflict in our region with our neighbors," Kamilov said.
Active work is being done on the initiative of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to establish close and mutually profitable contacts with neighbor countries and measures are being taken to resolve issues through reasonable compromise, he said.
"While intensifying cooperation with the countries of our region, we will at the same time firmly defend the interests of our people and country," Kamilov said.
