HAMBURG. July 7 (Interfax) - The Russian and U.S. sides have reached an agreement on the creation of a channel between representatives of the states on the settlement of the situation in eastern Ukraine, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
"When Ukraine was discussed, the U.S. side said they had appointed a special representative to promote efforts to settle the Ukrainian crisis. And an agreement was reached to create a channel between a representative of the Russian Federation and a representative of the United States to use that opportunity, the capabilities that the U.S. has to promote settlement based on the Minsk agreements with regard for and using the potential of the contact group and the Normandy format," the Russian foreign minister said following the first meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the G20 summit.
According to earlier reports, Kurt Volker was appointed U.S. special representative on Ukrainian settlement.
"We hope that the U.S. representative on Ukrainian settlement will arrive in Moscow for consultations in the near future," Lavrov said.
