MOSCOW/KALININGRAD. July 10 (Interfax) - A foreign reconnaissance plane closely approached a passenger jetliner en route from Helsinki to Munich over the Baltic Sea off Kaliningrad last weekend, a source with knowledge of the situation told Interfax.
"The crew of the Airbus A-321 passenger jet en route from Helsinki to Munich reported the system warning of a dangerous approach of a foreign warplane, which passed by only 150 meters above the passenger jet, while flying over the Baltic Sea, 100 kilometers from Kaliningrad. The planes safely passed by one another thanks to the crew's efforts," the source said.
He added that the incident happened above neutral waters of the Baltic Sea.
"There is preliminary information that the foreign aircraft, a Boeing RIVET Joint powered by four jet engines, was carrying radio-electronic intelligence and aerial photography equipment. Judging the response code, it belongs to a NATO member country," the source said.
