Russia sees 2, Turkey 4 truce breaches in Syria in past 24 hours

MOSCOW. July 10 (Interfax-AVN) - The situation in Syria's de-escalation areas has been stable in the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Monday.

"Russian members of the joint Russian-Turkish commission investigating ceasefire breaches recorded two shooting incidents in the provinces of Latakia (1) and Aleppo (1) during the day. Turkish members saw four breaches in the provinces of Latakia (1), Hama (1) and Damascus (2)," the statement said.

"Most cases of random small arms fire were observed in the areas held by militants of the Jabhat al-Nusra and ISIL terrorist groups [both banned in Russia]," it said.

No ceasefire agreements were signed with new populated localities during the day, the statement said, adding that 2,001 populated localities had signed the agreements of the sort by now. Negotiations on the cessation of hostilities continued with armed opposition units in the provinces of Aleppo, Idlib, Damascus, Hama, Homs and al-Quneitra. The number of armed units which had decided to cease fire did not change and remained at 228.
