MOSCOW. July 10 (Interfax) - Russian ombudsman Tatyana Moskalkova has said she had already sent to investigative bodies an inquiry on a majority of citizens who, according to Novaya Gazeta, were killed in Chechnya.
Information on two of these people was not confirmed and the investigative directorate for the Northern Caucasus has continued its probe, she said.
"If we compare the names regarding which Novaya Gazeta contacted me in March and those stated in the article dated [July] 9, the list is the same, with the exception of three people," Moskalkova told Interfax.
"I made inquiries to the Investigative Committee regarding the address I received in March. We received a response stating that two of the people stated on the list as missing are not victims," she said.
Moskalkova said only the first and last names of the people stated in the Novaya Gazeta report are known. "This requires additional probes, which the investigative directorate for the Northern Caucasus is doing," she said.
Moskalkova said she is keeping this case under her control.
On Sunday, Novaya Gazeta reported that at least 27 people who had been earlier detained for uncertain reasons at different times had been killed in Chechnya in the early hours of January 26.
