MOSCOW. July 10 (Interfax) - The granting of a NATO membership action plan to Ukraine would be a step bringing the alliance closer to Russian borders, which would not improve European security, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.
"Russia has been significantly concerned about the NATO military infrastructure's approach toward our borders over the past years. This [granting of a membership action plan to Ukraine] could potentially become the next step in this direction, which certainly would not help strengthen stability and security in the European continent," Peskov told journalists.
Despite the fact that relations between Ukraine and NATO do not directly concern Russia, this matter has a significant indirect effect on it, he said.
