DONETSK. July 10 (Interfax) - Acting Horlivka Mayor Ivan Prykhodko has partially lost his hearing after he had came under fire from Ukrainian mortars in the area of Yasynuvata.
"My car came under fire on a road near Yasynuvata. At first we were shelled from an infantry fighting vehicle, then from an anti-aircraft mount. We were in a civilian car with a Ukrainian license plate. We were forced to stop the car and lie down. Then the mortar shelling began, I remember the third shell [fired], and I lost consciousness after that," Prykhodko said at a press conference on Monday.
Civilians use this road and their vehicles are often shelled, he said.
"I lost hearing on the same day, 50% in the right ear and 70% in the left one. It's the closest point to the contact line, in 700 or 800 meters to the Ukrainian positions. But I don't think it was an assassination attempt, we were in an ordinary civilian car," he said.
