KYIV. July 11 (Interfax) - Kurt Volker's appointment as U.S. special envoy to Ukraine will give a fresh impulse to settlement of a crisis in Donbas, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said.
"I think that his appointment will give us the opportunity to gain new dynamics, of which you will hear shortly. I had a very lengthy meeting with him yesterday, we discussed a lot of next steps. And the United States, what Rex Tillerson [U.S. Secretary of State] spoke about yesterday, will be very closely working with us and with the Normandy Format," he told a press briefing in Kyiv on Monday.
Klimkin called Volker a man, who "understands very well the realities of our region and understands very well the nature of current Russian authorities."
"He is a man, who has always held a consistent stance, and the most important thing that is the relevant experience," the foreign minister said.
It was reported on July 7 that U.S. Secretary of State Tillerson appointed former U.S. Permanent Representative to NATO Volker as special envoy to Ukraine.
