ASTANA. July 11 (Interfax) - Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has signed a law introducing changes and additions to certain Kazakh laws in order to reconcile them with the constitutional norms on the deprivation of terrorists of Kazakh citizenship.
The document aims to reconcile current laws with the constitutional amendments which were approved in March 2017, the presidential press service said on Tuesday.
The law modified seven codes and 46 laws. An additional type of criminal punishment in the form of deprivation of citizenship was proclaimed by Article 21 of the Criminal Code.
An alternate punishment, the deprivation of citizenship, may apply to 14 types of grave terrorist felonies described by ten articles of the Criminal Code, such as an act of terrorism, the formation and leadership of a terrorist group, the participation in a terrorist group's activity, etc.
Sixteen types of criminal offenses described by 11 articles of the Criminal Code, such as genocide, separatism, the formation and leadership of an extremist group, the participation in its activity and some others, were proclaimed as felonies inflicting severe damage on national and vital interests of the republic.
Courts will hand down such sentences in extreme cases, following a complete inquiry into circumstances of the case, the severity of offenses, and the gravity of their consequences.
