Iranian diplomat discussing Syria in Moscow

MOSCOW, Aug 1 (Interfax) - It is necessary to open a "political horizon" for Syrian settlement by diplomatic means, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Jaberi Ansari said.

"It's necessary to open a political horizon, in which it would be possible to achieve a prompt political settlement of the Syrian crisis," Ansari said, opening talks with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov in Moscow on Tuesday.

There are several matters in the discussion of the Syrian crisis: "the issue of security and efficient countering of terrorism and a serious protest against the instrumental use of terrorism in order to achieve one's goals, as well as the political aspect of the Syrian crisis," Ansari said.

"There are two matters, on which it would be appropriate to hold consultations: firstly, the speed and the depth of those changes that are ongoing in the Middle East, and secondly, the level of cooperation and interaction between our countries at the bilateral and multilateral scale," he said.

Ansari also said he intends to discuss the Palestinian issue in addition to Syria during his visit to Russia.
