Turkish Red Crescent president backs idea to deploy UN-mandated peacekeepers in Syria

ANKARA. Aug 10 (Interfax) - The Turkish Red Crescent believes the possible presence of peacekeepers in the peace process in Syria would be helpful if they have a United Nations Security Council mandate.

"UN peacekeepers, if they have a Security Council mandate, might be helpful to all in Syria," Turkish Red Crescent President Kerem Kinik said.

The Syrian opposition High Negotiations Committee (HNC) had earlier proposed stationing peacekeepers in the de-escalation areas in Syria.
