KHABAROVSK. Aug 14 (Interfax) - The Far East District Military Court has convicted a resident of the Khabarovsk territory of recruitment to the Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization (banned in Russia), the Federal Security Service's department in the Eastern Military District said.
The defendant was found guilty of two crimes of aiding and abetting terrorism and sentenced to five years in a general penitentiary and a fine of 100,000 rubles.
The report said the defendant pleaded guilty.
The defendant, who maintained radicalized religious views, contacted members of the terrorist organization on the phone. He received special religious training outside Khabarovsk in 2015 and returned to the city for the recruitment purposes.
"The defendant shared his ideology with two residents of Khabarovsk within a year and prepared them in a later period for traveling to Syria to join the international terrorist organization," the report said.
The defendant and two recruited men were detained in Khabarovsk Airport in November 2016 when they were trying to leave the country.
