Moldovan gov't to be dismissed if attempts to destabilize situation in country - Dodon

CHISINAU. Aug 14 (Interfax) - Moldovan President Igor Dodon said he will be forced to oust the republic's government and parliamentary majority if they destabilize the situation in the country.

"I would like to say that if the Moldovan government and the parliamentary majority, steered by certain forces outside the country, attempt to interfere with regional conflicts or destabilize the situation in the country, I, as president, together with the country's citizens will be forced to remove these authorities by all available means," Dodon said at a briefing on Monday.

He named the convocation of the Great National Assembly, as well as non-stop mass protest rallies led by the president among possible actions.

"We will under no circumstances allow Moldova to be dragged into regional military escapades. We are determined to ensure peace and stability by all means. I am convinced that Chisinau will not and cannot attack Transdniestria. I would like to emphasize this," the president said.

"Moldova is not going to attack anyone and no one is going to attack Moldova. But if any government officials want to use this option to cover up other shortcomings in domestic policy, we will have no other choice. I'm confident that Moldovan citizens will support us. We don't want war and don't want to play anyone's political and geopolitical games. Leave us alone! We're a small neutral country and we want peace," Dodon said.
