Moldovan troops not to take part in int'l exercises for time being - president

CHISINAU. Aug 14 (Interfax) - Moldovan servicemen will be involved in international peacekeeping operations but not in military exercises, President Igor Dodon told journalists on Monday.

Asked to comment on the United States' decision to stop financing Moldovan National Army programs, Dodon said he had "received this information, and this concerns involvement in multilateral military exercises."

"It's necessary to distinguish between participation in peacekeeping operations and in multilateral or bilateral military exercises. This year, Moldova is to participate in two peacekeeping operations but is not to participate in various bilateral or multilateral exercises. I've blocked this until a new defense minister is appointed," Dodon said.

"Moldova will remain neutral and will not be involved in any conflicts," Dodon said. "I won't allow Moldova to be involved in any geopolitical games. This should be clear to everyone," he said.
