One of GTA gang members dies from injuries - Russian Investigative Committee

MOSCOW. Aug 14 (Interfax) - One of the members of the so-called GTA gang, Fazlitdin Khasanov, who was injured in a shooting at the Moscow Regional Court on August 1, has died in hospital, his accomplice Khazratkhon Dodokhonov has been discharged and is about to be transferred to a pretrial detention facility, Russian Investigative Committee spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko said.

"Today the defendant Fazlitdin Khasanov died for sustained injuries at a medical institution. Another GTA member, Khazratkhon Dodokhonov, has been discharged from hospital and will soon be moved to a pretrial detention facility," Petrenko said, responding to a relevant question from Interfax.

The five defendants in the GTA gang case on August 1 attacked two police officers who were escorting them, and staged a shooting inside the Moscow Regional Court building. As a result, three of the bandits were killed, five people injured, including two defendants.

The GTA gang was set up in 2012. It consisted of 14 members, all of them natives of Asian republics. By 2014, the gang had killed 17 people and injured two in Moscow and in the Moscow and Kaluga regions, according to the investigative committee. In rare cases, robbery victims managed to escape after serious beating and threats.

Nine members went on trial, four others are on the international wanted list. The gang leader was killed during attempts to detain him.

The title "GTA gang" first appeared in the media in reference to the well-known computer game Grand Theft Auto.
