MOSCOW. Aug 16 (Interfax) - Moscow hopes that Iran will not quit the nuclear deal and the United States will stick to its obligations, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a press conference on Wednesday following negotiations with his Bolivian colleague.
"As for the remark by President [Hassan] Rouhani that Iran may quit the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which was signed to settle the situation around the Iranian nuclear program, I hope that won't happen," Lavrov said.
"I also hope the United States will not violate its obligations under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action," Lavrov said.
"As you know, the United States confirmed in due time, as prescribed by its laws, that Iran was committed to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, but Washington still imposed new unilateral sanctions on Iran, saying that these sanctions did not relate to the nuclear program, i.e. JCPOA, but concerned Iranian behavior in other spheres causing Washington's discontent, such as human rights, such as, I believe, Iranian behavior in the region, and so on and so forth," Lavrov said.
