Army 2017 forum participants to be introduced to new sniper rifle from Kalashnikov Concern

IZHEVSK. Aug 16 (Interfax-AVN) - Kalashnikov Concern, which is a part of the Rostec state corporation, is to present a new sniper rifle called Chukavin Sniper Rifle, at the Army 2017 forum, the concern said in a statement published on its social media page on Wednesday.

"Kalashnikov Concern will present a product line of self-loading rifles SVCh [Chukavin Sniper Rifle] at the Army 2017 international military-technical forum," the statement said.

"The SVCh, the Chukavin Sniper Rifle, is an advanced development from Kalashnikov Concern in the area of high-precision small arms," Kalashnikov Concern director for special projects Yevgeny Spiridonov is quoted in the statement as saying.

The SVCh has an accommodation scheme unusual for Russian-made arms. Almost all the load is on the upper part, which is made of steel. "We thus achieve a reduction of the total weight of the rifle but it does not affect reliability, absolutely, because there is no load put on the lower part," Spiridonov said.

The rifle is designed to use 7,62x54 cartridges. The rifle's magazine has a maximum capacity of 10 to 20 cartridges and weighs 4.2 kg. The rifle is equipped with a telescopic buttstock with an adjustable cheek. An extended Picatinny rail along the entire length of the receiver makes it possible to mount any attachable equipment on the rifle. The butt, the barrel receiver and the barrel are lined up with each other to reduce the gun's upthrust, the company said.
