MOSCOW. Aug 17 (Interfax) - Russian Natural Resources and Ecology Minister Sergei Donskoi will present a report on Russia's application to the reshuffled UN Commission on Limits of Continental Shelf.
"The next session is due in September, and I am planning a visit between September 2 and 4. We will work with our specialists as well. I will need to visit New York for the opening session, where I will present new materials. We will introduce ourselves to the new commission," he said.
"Given that the commission has been reshuffled, I do not think they will make any abrupt moves for now; everyone needs to get acquainted before making any propositions," the minister said.
Russia filed a request to expand its Arctic continental shelf by 1.2 million square kilometers with the commission in August 2015. The first official presentation of the request took place in February of this year, and the commission accepted the application for processing. It may take the UN commission three to five years to process the request.
The UN Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf is reshuffled once a decade.
