Russia observes 5 ceasefire breaches, Turkey 2 in Syria in past 24 hours

MOSCOW. Aug 21 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia has observed five shooting instances in Syria's de-escalation areas in the past 24 hours, while Turkey has recorded another two, the Russian Defense Ministry said in an information bulletin.

"Russian members of the joint Russian-Turkish commission investigating ceasefire breaches have recorded five shooting incidents in the provinces of Aleppo (1), Latakia (3), and Damascus (1) in the past 24 hours. Turkish members of the commission recorded two breaches in the provinces of Aleppo (1) and Homs (1) during the day," the ministry said.

According to it, the situation has been stable in the de-escalation areas.

"Most cases of random small arms fire were seen in the areas held by militants of the Jabhat al-Nusra and ISIL terrorist groups (banned in Russia)," the ministry said.

Five ceasefire agreements were signed during the day in the populated localities of An-Nasrani, Tessel Abed and Khablettin of the Homs province, and al-Alamen and Um Khreze of the Idlib province. Hence, the number of populated localities engaged in the reconciliation process has grown to 2,207.
