MOSCOW. Aug 22 (Interfax) - The Russian Armed Forces on Monday began a set of logistics drills in aspects of the overall logistics support for troops (forces), the Russian Defense Ministry's Department of Information and Mass Communications said.
"These are planned operational- and combat-training drills of commands, formations and units in overall logistics and has been held annually under the supervision of the chiefs of the armed services and central commands," a statement says.
At the Luzhsky, Strugi Krasniye and Pravdinsky training sites and in the airfields and training centers of the Western Military District, troops will practice organizing material-technical, engineering, moral-psychological, medical, hydrometeorological support, organizing communications and radiological, chemical and biological defense of troops, using the experience of modern local warfare and armed conflicts, the ministry said.
The plan involves Russian logistics units, engineering and railway troops and Belarusian technical and home-front support units raising bridges, organizing river-crossing transport, restoring air terminal infrastructure and organizing air terminal supplies, repairing weapons and military hardware, and providing for the daily army needs in battlefield conditions.
The plan also involves trialing modern troop- and vehicle control automated systems in overall logistics operations for troops (forces), brand new robotic systems, innovative developments and promising hardware models.
"Another element of the exercise will be radiological, chemical and biological defense troops practicing a cleanup operation in the aftermath of the use of biological agents and disasters at radiological and high-risk chemical facilities.
In all, the logistics exercise involves around 3,000 troops and up to 450 units of military and special hardware. The exercise will take place in several Russian regions and end on August 26.
