Tula industry produces 20% of Russia's armaments - governor

TULA. Aug 22 (Interfax-AVN) - Defense industry facilities in Tula region plan to deliver new samples of armaments to the Russian army and increase their export potential, Tula region governor Alexei Dyumin said to journalists at the Army 2017 Forum opened on Tuesday in Kubinka, Moscow region.

"The forum is very important for the development of Russia's defense industry. Tula defense industry facilities don't remain onlookers: 20% of the Russian defense industry is concentrated in our region. Most of the weaponry made in Tula is applied in the Russian Army. Other security and military forces are supplied with them too. Besides, Tula region not only manufactures by develops weaponry exported to different countries of the world," Dyumin said.

The governor voiced hope that the forum will result in the expansion of the cooperation of Tula region companies with the Russian Defense Ministry and lead to the conclusion of new contracts.

The press service of the Tula region governor reported that the arms exhibition features the output of nine local companies: the Shipunov Instrument Design Bureau, the Rolled Metal Plant, NPO Splav, AK Tulhamashzavod, NPO Strela, JSC Polema, Promet-Special Technologies, JSC Simulator Systems and NPP Alfa-Pribor.

They demonstrated the Pantsyr-S1 missile system, Kornet-EM multipurpose long-range missile system, jet projectiles for MLRS Grad, a man-portable radar for the reconnaissance of ground moving targets, a simulator for training operators of Kornet launcher and other types of arms and ammunition.

The Army 2017 international military-technical forum will continue through August 27. Its main events will take place at the Patriot center near Kubinka outside of Moscow and the nearby Alabino training range.
