KYIV. Aug 23 (Interfax) - Ukraine will do its best to become a member of the European Union and NATO, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said.
"We will be working hard to draw near the day when Ukraine eventually becomes an EU member and a NATO participant," Poroshenko said in Kyiv on Wednesday on the occasion of the State Flag Day.
Ukraine has achieved much on the path of European integration, he said.
"Please notice how the proximity to the EU flag becomes our flag. We won an opportunity to freely travel to Europe two and a half months ago after we had completed relevant reforms. Our diplomats won a hard battle against Russian agents trying to thwart ratification of the Association Agreement with the European Union. The Association Agreement will take full effect precisely a week from today, on September 1," Poroshenko said.
