MOSCOW. Aug 24 (Interfax) - Moscow hopes that Washington will not continue the sanctions opposition to it, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
"It was not us who started the pointless fight on the international arena. It was not us who started the pointless sanctions spiral. We hope that the 'hotheads' [in the United States] will cool down and common sense will prevail," Lavrov told a press conference in Moscow on Thursday.
Asked how Russian-U.S. tensions are affecting bilateral interaction on Syria, Lavrov said, "We are pragmatic. It is not a place for taking offence and a false sense prestige."
"We are talking about a threat to us all and about the future of the people of this region, the peoples of Syria and other countries," he said.
