MOSCOW. Aug 29 (Interfax) - Alexander Mukomolov, a member of the Russian presidential Human Rights Council, has held a meeting with Chechen and Dagestani residents who are relatives of children held in Iraq and Syria.
"Twenty-five or thirty people looking for their grandchildren or nephews, who were taken from Russia, attended the meeting. In general, there are about 80 children who need to be rescued," the Human Rights Council said in a statement on its website on Monday.
The meeting took place at the Chechen Public Chamber as part of a working group, created under the aegis of the Human Rights Council, coordinating activities in rescuing Russian children trapped in the armed conflict zone.
"Relatives promised to forward information on how, where and when minors went missing to human rights defenders in the near future," the statement said.
"The most important thing now is to involve the potential of all humanitarian organizations in order to remove children and place them in a safe location, where they could be provided with shoes and food and expect further action in identifying them and sending them to Russia," Mukomolov said at the meeting.
