Search at Russian Consulate General in San Francisco looked like bandit attack - Zakharova

MOSCOW. Sept 4 (Interfax) - During searches at the Russian Consulate General building in San Francisco American special services have probably searched for evidence of Russia's meddling in the United States presidential elections, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.

"I believe that, surely, some of them are searching for evidence that we have allegedly elected their president," Zakharova said on the air of on NTV channel.

The U.S. Department of State officially said that they had been searching for explosives in the building, she said.

Officers of American special services arrived to the Consulate General building in San Francisco and the trade mission in Washington with special equipment, police dog handlers and "a trailer of the company, which is engaged in the breaking of safe boxes, locks and doors," Zakharova said.

"It is not a check, it is a real search already turning in some sort of bandit attack," she said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson recalled that though these facilities do not enjoy diplomatic immunity any more, they remain to be Russian property, and the U.S. authorities did not have the right to intrude there.
