UNSC recognizes positive changes in Syrian settlement - envoy Nebenzya

NEW YORK. Sept 4 (Interfax) - Colleagues at the United Nations Security Council are bound to admit positive developments in the situation in Syria owing to Russia's actions in the country, Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said.

"It's impossible to refrain from recognizing that positive changes occur on the ground in Syria. All countries, including those that acted as our opponents to a fault, and sometimes even over it, are bound to admit that positive developments in stabilization in Syria are associated with Russia's relevant efforts," he told Russian reporters in New York.

"It also applies to the situation in the fight against terrorism, the creation of security areas, the situation with ensuring conditions for delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians in need," he said.

"It is actually confirmed at meetings at the UN Security Council and in Geneva," Nebenzya said.

"In this sense, even those who had fiercely criticized us not so long ago, were forced to admit, maybe reluctantly, that the situation has improved. We can already see a certain horizon of the political settlement which we are striving to reach," Nebenzya said.

"The process is underway, and it is a cause of our optimism, a hope that we will embark on the firm path of the political settlement soon," he said.
