UN peacekeepers can reinforce OSCE mission only after troop disengagement of sides in Donbas - DPR

DONETSK. Sept 5 (Interfax) - Ensuring the security of employees of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission and strengthening them with UN peacekeepers is feasible after the disengagement of forces and equipment, self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) special envoy Denis Pushilin told reporters.

"Following the disengagement of forces and equipment under the framework decision for implementing a full-fledged ceasefire, it is feasible to reinforce OSCE SMM employees with UN peacekeepers to ensure their security. This concerns only the line of contact between the conflicting sides," Pushilin told reporters on Tuesday.

The mandate should be coordinated with representatives from the DPR and the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) within the framework of the Contact Group, Pushilin said.

"One should remember that the situation surrounding disengagement is extremely complicated, since even in three pilot sectors the agreements have not been fully implemented," he said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said earlier on Tuesday that the UN peacekeepers' presence in Donbas would benefit conflict settlement in south-eastern Ukraine and instructed the Russian Foreign Ministry to submit a relevant draft resolution for the consideration of the UN Security Council.
