MOSCOW. Sept 11 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has told German Chancellor Angela Merkel in a telephone conversation that Moscow is ready to take into account in the initiative on United Nations peacekeepers in Donbas their right to guard the OSCE mission not only on the line of contact, but in other places as well, the Kremlin press service said following two leaders' telephone conversation on Monday.
"Vladimir Putin elaborated on the Russian initiative to set up a UN mission to facilitate the guarding the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM). In light of thoughts voiced by Angela Merkel, the Russian leader indicated the readiness to update functions of the aforementioned UN mission in the Russia-sponsored draft resolution of the Security Council. It is intended that UN peacekeepers could guard OSCE observers not only on the line of contact following the disengagement of both parties' forces and hardware, but in other locations as well, where the OSCE SMM pays its inspection visits in accordance with the Minsk Package of Measures," the Kremlin said.
In addition, the parties addressed the implementation process of the Minsk Agreements on the settlement in southeastern Ukraine during the telephone conversation.
"It was noted that any ceasefire violations undermining the so-called 'school truce' negotiated by the contact group and supported by the leaders of the Normandy format countries are inadmissible," it said.
