Lavrov, Tillerson could agree on solution to at least some pressing issues at possible UN meeting - Ryabkov

HELSINKI. Sept 12 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov hopes Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and United States Secretary of State Rex Tillerson would be able to reach agreement on at least some of the current problems at their possible meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

"Of course, we would like our bosses, the heads of foreign affairs, after their meeting, to send a positive signal to the countries and international community in general in the form of arrangements to resolve at least some of the existing problems," Ryabkov told journalists after meeting with U.S. Under Secretary Thomas Shannon in Helsinki on Tuesday.

"Positive signals are very much needed and quite sought-after on major issues of the international agenda, be it Syria, or the situation on the Korean peninsula, alongside Ukraine," Ryabkov said.

"We think that the time remaining until the high-level segment of the General Assembly allows us to still try and work out this sort of signals," Ryabkov said.
