Alexander Otrakovsky landing ship crosses English Channel - Northern Fleet HQ

MOSCOW. Sept 21 (Interfax-AVN) - The Alexander Otrakovsky large landing ship on Thursday completed passage through the English Channel after crossing its narrowest point, Pas-de-Calais, a day earlier, the Northern Fleet headquarters said.

"Next, the Russian ship will continue moving southwards in accordance with the deployment plan. En route the ship's crew is practicing a number of ship exercises in all types of defense and damage control," the Northern Fleet's press service said in a statement obtained by Interfax-AVN on Thursday.

The remote deployment of the Alexander Otrakovsky began on September 12. The crew "has been tasked with providing for the naval presence in strategically important parts of the World Ocean," the fleet said.

The crew is substantial experience in going on far-off missions. In 2015 - 2016, the Alexander Otrakovsky spent 588 days away from the base in what has become the longest remote deployment in Northern Fleet's modern history, the statement said.
