Russian military drill evacuation of damaged hardware on Abkhazia's coast

MOSCOW. Sept 21 (Interfax-AVN) - Servicemen of the Russian military base in Abkhazia have placed mobile repair workshops for damaged combat hardware on the Black Sea coast, the Southern Military District headquarters said on Thursday.

"During the exercises, servicemen, employing armored repair and recovery vehicles based on BTR-80 armored personnel carriers, will drill special tasks for the evacuation of non-operational military hardware in the course of a simulated battle and its delivery to a damaged vehicle-collection center for further repair," the Southern Military District press service said in a statement obtained by Interfax-AVN.

"Upon completion of the special exercise, personnel will perform control exercises to pilot standard equipment on rugged terrain in order to clear different obstacles, and drill actions of comprehensive support for combined-arms formations during a march," the statement said.

Over 100 Russian servicemen and over 20 units of different military hardware, including BTR-80 armored personnel carriers, Ural, and KamAZ trucks, are involved in the training, the district's headquarters said.
