MOSCOW. Oct 9 (Interfax-AVN) - A Russian peacekeeping force countered a mock enemy attack during a special training exercise held by the Operational Group of Russian Forces deployed in the Transdniestrian region of Moldova, a spokesperson for the Western Military District told Interfax-AVN on Friday.
"Taking account of the fact that Russian peacekeepers have more than once provided medical assistance to the injured, the mock enemy staged an intentional road accident to divert the attention of the stationed personnel. After which it shelled the peacekeeping station with various types of small arms with a view to infiltrating the Security Zone and creating a corridor for unimpeded smuggling of ammunition and weapons," the spokesperson said.
The personnel summoned reinforcements, set up defense and proceeded to repulse the attack. "Upon arrival at the station the reinforcement unit took firing positions and blocked and destroyed the mock enemy," the spokesperson said.
This is a routine exercise. "Such exercises are held at a specially equipped training site fully simulating a peacekeeping station," the spokesperson said.
