U.S. armored brigade's deployment to Poland violates NATO-Russia Founding Act - State Duma deputy

MOSCOW. Oct 12 (Interfax) - The deployment of another U.S. armored brigade to Poland flagrantly breaches the NATO-Russia Founding Act, Andrei Krasov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee, told Interfax on Thursday.

"This is not just a flagrant breach of the NATO-Russia Founding Act, but also an unprecedented case of the ongoing deployment of NATO military units near Russia's borders," Krasov said.

Another U.S. armored brigade and its hardware have arrived in Poland against the backdrop of the Zapad (West) 2017 strategic exercise of Russia and Belarus, Igor Konashenkov, the Russian Defense Ministry's spokesman, said earlier on Thursday. He said that hardware of the 3rd U.S. armored brigade remained in Poland and the Baltic republics.

"Therefore, a whole U.S. armored division has been stationed near the Russian border. Let us not forget about NATO battalions stationed in Poland and the Baltic republics, the U.S. global missile defense system, arms depots, and airfields. Infrastructure has been created, and it is being beefed up with NATO units and formations," Krasov said.

"This is not just alarming and worrisome. This is a source of our profound concern," he said.
