Syrian army expanding foothold on eastern bank of Euphrates river in Deir ez-Zor province - Gen. Rudskoi

MOSCOW. Oct 13 (Interfax-AVN) - The Syrian army is expanding its foothold on the eastern bank of the Euphrates river in the Deir ez-Zor province, Col. Gen. Sergei Rudskoi, chief of the Main Operational Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces General Staff, said at a briefing on Friday.

"The advance towards north and east of it is going successfully," Rudskoi said.

"In the interest of smooth logistic support for the grouping and humanitarian aid delivery to the civilian population, Syrian army engineers helped by Russian military specialists set up three pontoon and one bridge crossing across Euphrates," Rudskoi said.
