MOSCOW. Oct 17 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian center for reconciliation of warring sides in Syria and national reconciliation committees in de-escalation areas continue working to establish peace in the Arab republic, Lieut. Gen. Sergei Kuralenko, deputy commander of Russian forces in Syria, said.
"A ceasefire agreement has been signed with the populated locality of Deir Four, Homs province, in the N2 de-escalation area. Officers from the Center for reconciliation of warring sides held a working meeting with members of the national reconciliation committee in the N4 de-escalation area and administration officials from the Umm Batnah, Nabaa Es Sakhrm and Ghadeer al-Bustan populated localities, al- Quneitra province, which are controlled by the armed opposition. During meeting they worked out proposals to open another humanitarian corridor, [between] Umm Batnah and Jaba. The proposals have been sent to Syrian government representatives," Kuralenko said at a briefing on Monday.
The Russian reconciliation center also delivered humanitarian aid to Deir Al-Bakt in Daraa province, he said. The refugees living there received two tonnes of food and essentials. "With the help of the local administration, destitute families have received necessary aid. During the humanitarian action, Russian military medics helped 106 local residents, including 40 children," Kuralenko said.
"Russian military medics, jointly with Syrian doctors, conducted a medical humanitarian action at an Khaleb Medical University infirmary in the city of Aleppo, during which 56 local residents, including 22 children, received outpatient medical assistance," Kuralenko said.
Also, with active support from the Center's officers, a joint convoy, organized by the United Nations, International Committee of the Red Cross and Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC), delivered 30 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Qaboun, Damascus province, including food rations, canned food, flour, essential hygiene kits, warm clothes, blankets and kitchen utensils. SARC representatives distributed hot meals to locals, the Russian general said.
In addition, the Center's officers and SARC representatives discussed problems in conducting humanitarian convoys planned this week, and outlined possible solutions, he said.
"In the Damascus province administration, a working group consisting of National Reconciliation Committee members from the N3 de-escalation area, with participation of the Center's officers, met with residents of Muadamiyat al-Sham, Khan al-Shih, Darushah, al-Kiswah, Jeda and Sahnaya, to consider their requests to provide these populated localities with water, clean up streets and sewers," Kuralenko said.
"The information was passed on to officials responsible for communal services. Representatives from the national reconciliation committee took charge of the process of addressing shortcomings," Kuralenko said.
