Moscow expects Lavrov, Tillerson to meet on APEC sidelines, no such agreement so far - Ryabkov

MOSCOW. Oct 17 (Interfax) - Moscow expects Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to meet on the sidelines of the APEC summit in Vietnam, but there is no agreement to this end as of yet, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told Interfax.

"I do not rule out this meeting, although we have no such agreement so far; still, the minister and the secretary of state have discussed issues pertaining to the Iran nuclear program alongside other matters constituting the current agenda of our dialogue from the angle of many situations in the world that cause our concern; the progress of that discussion revealed the need to continue exchanging opinions with due account of the ongoing events and the rather worrisome trends around the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) we have been witnessing," Ryabkov said.

"This is one of the reasons why the sides may agree to meet at some point, but there is no such agreement as of yet. Nonetheless, we are making preparations and are expecting this contact to take place," he said.
