MOSCOW. Oct 17 (Interfax) - The peacekeeping forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) countries are drilling a peacekeeping operation in a mock country at the Unbreakable Brotherhood 2017 maneuvers at a training range in Kazakhstan, CSTO spokesperson Vladimir Zainetdinov said.
The measures to increase the interoperability of the CSTO Collective Peacekeeping Forces (KMS) United Command, which was established on a multi-national basis, have been carried out in line with a plan of joint drills over the past 24 hours, he said.
"Upon receiving the task, the United Command, led by the CSTO KMS commander, began actions to organize a peacekeeping operation. The decision to use the CSTO Collective Peacekeeping Forces under the UN Security Council's mandate in a mock country which is not a CSTO member was drilled at this stage of the drills," Zainetdinov said.
Work to draft coordinating documents on conducting the joint operations is continuing, he said.
The peacekeeping forces of the CSTO countries comprising the organization's KMS had earlier trained for joint actions by performing training and combat tasks.
"As part of preparation to upcoming actions, International Committee of the Red Cross members have provided a training course on applying international humanitarian law and on humanitarian problems during a peacekeeping operation," Zainetdinov also said.
Overall, over 1,500 military personnel, over 200 pieces of weapons, military, and special hardware, and up to 25 aircraft, including UAVs, from all the CSTO countries were involved in the drills, he said.
The maneuvers have been underway at the Kazakh Armed Forces' training ranges near Almaty since Monday.
