Ukraine quits defense plant specialization agreement with Russia

KYIV. Oct 18 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian government has terminated the Ukraine-Russia agreement on defense plant specialization.

The decision was made at a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, an Interfax correspondent said.

Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman mentioned the decision amongst others which had been made by the government without debate.

The agreement dated December 21, 2000, encouraged Ukraine and Russia to maintain production, scientific and technical specialization of enterprises and organizations designing, manufacturing and testing armaments and military hardware, rendering military services, and delivering relevant materials, semi-finished products, component parts, and training and auxiliary property.

The sides pledged not to sell or transfer to third parties, including foreign individuals, legal entities, and international organizations, any materials, semi-finished products, component parts, documents and information obtained under the agreement without the written consent of the supplier.

On August 9, 2017, the Ukrainian government terminated an agreement with Russia dated July 18, 2003, which regulated bilateral interaction in exports of military products to third countries.
