Ukraine to file NATO membership bid after it reaches alliance's criteria - head of Kyiv's delegation to NATO PA

KYIV. Oct 19 (Interfax) - The head of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada's permanent delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA), Iryna Fryz, has said she believes that Ukraine may become a NATO member only after it implements a consistent plan of reforms without facing any specific timeline for admission to the alliance.

"The process of Ukraine's integration into NATO should be impeccable from the point of view of achieving progress and should be free from any speculation regarding any specific date for admission," Fryz wrote on her Facebook page on Wednesday.

There is a roadmap for reforms that is tied to a concrete timeline for these reforms' implementation, she said. The NATO membership action plan is a desirable and achievable goal for Ukraine, she said.

When Ukraine reaches the alliance's necessary criteria and standards, accession talks will begin, she said, adding that Ukraine would not submit a membership bid prior to that.
