Draft design of Baiterek space launch site to be ready by Nov - Roscosmos

ASTANA. Oct 19 (Interfax) - A preliminary design of the Baiterek space launch site will be ready by November 2017, Roscosmos Deputy General Director Sergei Savelyev said.

"A new version of the Baiterek project roadmap and implementation conditions has been drafted and is being finalized. Kazakhstan has been provided with the basic data it needs to conduct a feasibility study of the project's financial aspects. A preliminary design of the space launch site will be ready by November of this year," Savelyev said at the Kazakhstan's Path to Space: Reality and Perspective 2017 forum in Astana on Thursday.

The Russia-Kazakhstan joint venture Baiterek "has been vested with the right to open and operate a new drop zone for separating rocket parts in the Zhangeldi district of the Kostanai region," Savelyev said.

"This zone will be used during launches of space rockets from the Baiterek launch site of the Baikonur cosmodrome," he said.

Baiterek is a project to construct a launch site belonging to Kazakhstan in Baikonur. The site will launch Russian rockets.
